Our Story

From a freezing storm drain at 3 AM to over 2,000 lives saved — Ploffy was built on one belief: no animal should die simply because nobody fought hard enough for them.

She's Living in Complete Darkness. She Has 3 Days.

Every week, cats arrive at kill shelters with shattered jaws, sealed eyes, and lungs full of fluid — not because they're broken beyond saving, but because no one stepped up in time. The surgeries exist. The vets are ready. The only thing standing between these cats and a second chance is someone who refuses to scroll past. I've pulled over 1,240 cats from the edge. Every single one of them just needed one person to say "not today." That person could be you.

Meet the Cats & Sponsor a Life

I Found Her in a Storm Drain at 3 AM. That Night Changed Everything.

Dogs don't end up in emergency shelters because they're dangerous or unlovable. They end up there because someone moved, or couldn't afford the bills, or simply stopped caring. They wait in kennels with urgent red stickers on their doors — wagging their tails every time someone walks by, still hoping their person is coming back. They deserve better than a Monday morning euthanasia list. In two years, we've saved 847 dogs from that list. Every single one of them only needed one thing: someone who showed up.

Meet the dogs & Sponsor a Life

We Show Up When No One Else Will

Ploffy was born at 2:47 AM in a rainstorm, when our founder Florence crawled into a freezing storm drain to pull a dying dog nobody else stopped for.

That moment made one thing clear: animals don't die because they can't be saved. They die because no one fought for them hard enough.

Ploffy exists to change that. We connect people who care with animals who are out of time — funding emergency surgeries, critical care, and full recoveries for cats and dogs who would otherwise be euthanized to make space.

No corporate overhead. No distant charity. Just Florence, a network of emergency vets, and a community of sponsors who refuse to look away.

"I've never once regretted stopping. Not for Luna in that drain. Not for any of them. The only thing I'd ever regret is driving past."

— Florence Mitchell, Founder of Ploffy

Every Life Is Worth Fighting For

Something happens to people when they save a life. We've watched it hundreds of times. A student who could barely afford $25 becomes a monthly sponsor. A retired couple who lost their dog years ago finds a reason to smile again. A man who swore he'd never love another dog after his passed — calling us two weeks later, crying, saying his new rescue follows him everywhere.

Saving animals doesn't just change the animal. It changes the person who showed up for them. It reminds you that you have power in a world that often makes you feel powerless. That's what Ploffy is really about. Not just rescue. Restoration — for the animals, and for the people brave enough to care.

Every Life Is Worth Fighting For

Our mission is simple: no animal should die because the funding ran out. Ploffy connects emergency rescue cases directly with people who care — cutting through the bureaucracy, the waiting lists, and the system that keeps running out of space.

When a cat arrives at a kill shelter with a shattered jaw, or a dog collapses on a rural highway with no one coming for him, we step in. We fund the surgeries. We cover the recovery. We stay until they're safe. Not because it's easy. Not because we have unlimited resources. Because someone has to — and we've decided that someone is us.

Common Questions

What do I receive with my sponsorship?

You receive a Digital Sponsorship Certificate. This is your official confirmation of support for Ploffy's emergency rescue cases — whether you've sponsored a cat, a dog, or both. You can download it immediately after checkout, and a copy will be sent to your email as a lasting reminder of the life you helped save.

How does my sponsorship actually help the animals?

Your contribution goes directly into the Emergency Rescue Fund for the active case you sponsor. This covers critical surgeries, emergency veterinary care, post-operative medications, and recovery food for cats and dogs who would otherwise be euthanized due to lack of funding. Every dollar is tied to a specific animal and a specific medical need.

Are you a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit?

We prioritize life over paperwork. Ploffy is an independent rescue collective. Traditional 501(c)(3) status requires thousands of dollars in legal fees and months of administrative waiting — resources we cannot spare when an animal has a 72-hour survival window.

By remaining independent, we ensure 100% of your sponsorship goes directly to the veterinary clinic, not to government filings or corporate overhead. You aren't getting a tax write-off. You're getting the direct, verified result of a life saved that would otherwise have been lost to the system.

How do I know my money is actually going to the animals?

We believe in radical transparency. Unlike large organizations where funds disappear into "administrative costs," we post actual vet receipts and surgical updates on our social channels. When you sponsor a case through Ploffy, you are paying a specific medical bill — and we share those bills, those invoices, and those recovery photos with our entire community in real time.

What happens if the funding deadline is reached?

The deadline on each case is a strict window set by the shelter due to capacity limits — not a marketing tool. Our goal is always to secure full funding before that window closes so every surgery can be greenlighted. If we fall short, we are forced to prioritize the cases with the highest immediate chance of survival. That's the choice we're trying to avoid making — and your sponsorship is what prevents it.

Why are the medical costs so high?

Emergency veterinary care for animals in critical condition is genuinely expensive. Jaw reconstructions, orthopedic surgeries, oxygen therapy, specialized ophthalmic procedures — these require veterinary specialists, anesthesia, and intensive post-operative monitoring. Add weeks of prescription medications and recovery food, and the costs accumulate fast. We never inflate figures. Every number on our pages is a real invoice from a real clinic.

Why don't these animals just go to a regular shelter?

Most shelters are already over capacity and underfunded. When a dog or cat arrives with a $3,000+ surgical need, municipal shelters are often forced to choose immediate euthanasia to preserve resources for healthy, easily adoptable animals. Ploffy specifically catches the cases the system turns away — the ones labeled "too expensive" or "too far gone." Those are exactly the ones we fight for.

Will I get updates on the animal I sponsored?

Yes — always. Sponsors deserve to see the impact of their kindness. We send regular email updates with photos and progress reports from the moment an animal leaves the clinic to the day they are healthy enough for adoption. When a dog takes its first steps on healed legs, or a cat opens its eyes for the first time after surgery, you'll be the first to know.

What happens if you raise more than the goal?

Any funds raised beyond the immediate needs of an active case go directly into the Ploffy Emergency Fund. This reserve allows us to say "yes" the next time a vet calls at 9 PM with an animal scheduled for euthanasia — without having to scramble for days before we can act. It's the safety net that makes faster rescues possible.

Is this a one-time payment or a subscription?

By default, every sponsorship is a one-time purchase. However, if you'd like to provide ongoing support for future rescue cases — both cats and dogs — you can join our Monthly Sponsorship program during checkout. You'll be the first to hear about new emergency cases, and you can cancel at any time, no questions asked.
